Bornholm democase: an update
In 2024, the Danish demo site focused particularly on onboarding, informing, and installing equipment for our 30 Bornholm prosumers. This has been a lengthy process, requiring us to ensure a positive experience for our prosumers, who have voluntarily agreed to participate in the project.
The Danish prosumers contribute to the project on multiple levels:
- They help test technology that promotes energy consumption flexibility, ensuring that as much of their self-produced electricity as possible is consumed locally rather than being sent to the main grid. This is naturally in the individual prosumers’ interest, as it allows them to achieve potential energy savings, but it also benefits the grid and its transition to handling more renewable green energy.
- Besides testing new technology, they also help verify the innovative solutions addressed by SYNERGIES. In other words, the voluntary prosumers play a significant and crucial role in SYNERGIES.
For the SYNERGIES project to be successful, it is essential to invest substantial resources in engaging them with SYNERGIES solutions and opportunities. This explains the considerable effort put into planning and conducting a Living Lab workshop with our prosumers and other Bornholm stakeholders during the summer of 2024. These workshops were developed in collaboration with PI and took place in September 2024. In addition to the involved prosumers, other stakeholder groups were invited, including the media, decision-makers, farm owners, and small and medium-sized enterprises. The workshops thus addressed both B2C and B2B audiences. Stakeholder groups were selected based on their potential interest in SYNERGIES solutions and their potential influence on making SYNERGIES solutions a reality. We consider the workshops to have been successful, as SYNERGIES both verified the solutions among various societal groups and received valuable inputs that can be directly worked on in the project.
One successful outcome from the workshop with the prosumers was their willingness to meet again. The plan for the meeting is for the 30 different prosumers to have the opportunity to meet each other and exchange experiences. Following this, there will be a status presentation on the SYNERGIES project and a presentation on energy consumption flexibility. Such meetings are important for keeping the Danish prosumers informed about the project’s progress and reiterating their central and crucial role in the project. In addition to this work with our prosumers, the Danish demo site is also focused on delivering quality-assured data for project development in the first quarter of 2025.
